SINGAPORE : Workers Party (WP) has expelled Yaw Shin Leong with immediate effect.
At a news conference on Wednesday, WP chairman Sylvia Lim said Mr Yaw was expelled as he had several indiscretions in his private life, and the party has to take this step in public interest.
She said other WP MPs will cover Mr Yaws duties.
She also said it is only fair for Hougang residents to have another chance to elect their MP.

My take, will have. PAP and many other parties are more than happy to have a fair by-election contest.....
LOL! their private life also wanna chup. as said private ma.. haix.. theres a public life(work) and a private life(personal) ma.. if they want to mix everything together next time how? every MP, govern worker need to report 24/7 of what they do meh... idk anything about that mans private life nor do i want to know. just that it isnt fair for him since they drag out the dirty laundry of his private life when they have no right to. and yea election will of course be happy for most ppl.

The three women allegedly involved with Yaw Shin Leong have been exposed.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, the first woman is Angela Oon, a Workers Party (WP) candidate in the previous general election.
Ms Oon, 33, previously stated that she will not confirm nor deny rumours of an affair with Yaw.
When reporters spoke to her over the phone, Ms Oon sounded uneasy and avoided answering questions. She then claimed that she is overseas right now and hastily hung up.
Angela Oons profile has also been removed from the WP website, further arousing suspicion from concerned members of the public.
The other rumoured women include a married Chinese national tuition teacher and social worker Zeng Xiao Ping, who is also a member of the WP.
Meanwhile, Yaws whereabouts remain unknown but he may have been spotted leaving the country yesterday morning.
According to The New Paper, a member of the public reported seeing Yaw alone and carrying luggage at Changi Airport Terminal 1.
It is unknown where he may be flying off to.
His Facebook page has also been disabled and his mobile phone switched off. Reporters believe that not even people from the WP can manage to contact him right now.
Yaw, undone by rumours of extramarital affairs, will go down in Singapores history as the first incumbent MP to be removed from his position in parliament.

anyway, By-Election is a must, accountability to the Hougang Residents and to Singapore, imagine having a MP from opposition who dare not speak much and dare not speak to the fullest volume, then whats the point of it?

The writ of election was issued today by the President, stating that Nomination Day will be on May 16, after which nine days of campaigning will commence.
Despite rampant speculation, PM Lee did not call for a by-election in any other constituency, limiting it to Hougangs 25,000 voters.
The Hougang seat became vacant after Mr Yaw was expelled from the WP on Feb 14 for refusing to account to the party leadership for his behaviour, including allegedly having extra-marital affairs.

SINGAPORE: Polling Day for the Hougang by-election will be on May 26, 2012, should there be a contest.
Nomination Day for the by-election will be on May 16.
President Tony Tan Keng Yam issued the writ of election on Wednesday.
"The by-election will give Hougang residents the chance to elect a new MP to serve them. I encourage Hougang voters to use this opportunity wisely, to elect the best candidate with commitment and integrity: someone they can rely upon to express their hopes and concerns, address their needs, and make a real difference to their lives," said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on his Facebook post.
The single-member constituency seat fell vacant in February after former Member of Parliament Yaw Shin Leong was expelled from the Workers Party, following reports of his personal indiscretions.
Mr Yaw had won the seat in the May 2011 general election with 64.8 per cent of the vote.
Polling Day for the by-election is not a public holiday. Under the law, every employer has to allow every elector in his employ a reasonable period of time for voting.
According to the Elections Department, Serangoon Junior College will be the nomination centre.
The Returning Officer is Mr Yam Ah Mee, Chief Executive Director of the Peoples Association.
Nomination papers can be collected at the office of the Returning Officer at the Elections Department in Prinsep Link.
They are available between 9am and 5pm daily (except Sundays and public holidays) and between 9am and 1pm on Saturdays.
Soft copies of the nomination paper can be downloaded from the Elections Department website.
The nomination paper must be filled in correctly and signed by the candidate and his/her proposer, seconder and at least four assentors whose names appear in the current Register of Electors for Hougang Constituency.
It must be delivered in duplicate to the Returning Officer at the Nomination Centre between 11am and 12 noon on Nomination Day.
The candidate must also be accompanied by his/her proposer, seconder and at least four assentors when delivering the nomination paper.
The Elections Department said every candidate must also obtain a Political Donation Certificate from the Registrar of Political Donations.
Application for the Certificate shall be made by submitting, in person or through an authorised representative, a pre-election donation report (Form 3) and a pre-election declaration (Form 4) to the Registrar of Political Donations at the Elections Department.
This must be done before 1pm on 12 May.
Application forms can be obtained from the Elections Department or downloaded from the Elections Department website.
According to the Parliamentary Elections Act, the deposit per candidate is eight per cent of the total allowances payable to an MP in the preceding year and rounded to the nearest S$500.
The deposit for a candidate shall, therefore, be S$13,500.
The deposit shall be paid either in cash or by a bank draft or a cheque certified by the bank as good for payment of the sum specified therein (payable to "Accountant-General, Singapore").
Payment can be made at any time, but no later than 12 noon on Nomination Day.
Payment can be made at the Accountant-Generals Department, 100 High Street, #06-01, The Treasury. It can also be made at the Nomination Centre on Nomination Day.
